I Am Josephine (and I Am a Living Thing) by Jan Thornhill & Jacqui Lee
This informational picture book features Josephine, a human being. Josephine shows us readers that we are also mammals, animals, and living things. We are also all unique.
This would be a great book for storytime or one-on-one reading. Vibrant and diverse illustrations (humans from all around the world are featured), simple sentences, and repetition. This book also incorporates counting, as it asks questions like “how many human beings are on this page?”.
My mom read this book to her kindergarten class during their All About Me unit and they all LOVED it. They were all able to find themselves represented in this book. It is definitely kid-approved, and helps children understand how they fit into the world.
Have you read it at a storytime? To a class? On your own? Let me know what you think!
