In the midst of looking at Ned Potter’s slideshare New Librarians: This is Your Time, I have already learned that part of my perspective on the role of librarians in the 21st century is not up-to-date. In my earlier post Why accio?, I wrote that librarians are the gatekeepers and key holders of information. And how wrong I was. As Potter quotes, “Librarians are no longer the gatekeepers of information. The gates are wide open. Our job is to light the path for people once they’re through” (Potter, 2012, slide 22-23).
Perhaps lumos > accio ?
(Lumos being the light-creation spell from J.K Rowling’s Harry Potter)
